Fixed metal braces(tracks) are made from stainless steel brackets and are bonded to the teeth using a composite adhesive. Metal bands or rings can be placed on the back teeth onto which various attachments are placed later. The braces and are usually fitted over two appointments where the front brackets and rubber separators are placed on the first appointment and the bands and wires are placed on the second appointment which may be on the same day or a few days later depending on what is convenient for you.
Fitting the braces is usually painless but the teeth will be a little tender for a few days after. Mild painkillers and wax supplied at our office should get you over the initial discomfort. Detailed written and verbal instructions will be given to you on the day your appliances are fitted.
Metal fixed braces are usually worn by children and can be dressed up with different colours for fun.
It is important that you continue to visit your regular dentist during orthodontic treatment.
